Writing Workshop - Model of How to Approach a Writing Project (write your own) - Literacy Narratives or Memoir (using invention strategies) - finish these as HW (make 2 extra copies to give to peers).
Pick up textbooks from Nancy Morriss's office. Bring textbooks for remainder of workshop.
Homework for Tuesday - bring 3 copies
The suggested length is approximately 500 words. Your draft should be typed and in standard essay format. (Note: if you're asking students to do this assignment on the first day, you will need to ask them to hand-write it and turn it in to you. You may wish to tell them that they may cross-out words to avoid re-copying the paper, yet should also write legibly.) Be sure to support your assertions with examples or details as necessary.
• Did you have a particular experience with writing that impacted you, either positively or negatively?
• How has your reading (in and out of class) affected your growth as a writer? Or, in other words, has your thinking grown with your writing?
• Did you overcome a challenge?
• Did you learn specific pre-writing or organizational techniques that helped you with a specific writing task?
• Did you write literary analyses in English class and nothing else?
• Do you write creatively on your own? If so, how did that come about?
Before you start writing, think critically about how you are going to organize your essay and be sure to use logical reasoning in your approach to the topic.

Below is my summary of the program, standardization, and teaching goals that guide the design and development of our program. I base these suggestions and points of reference in response to teacher and student feedback; on research and theory in English Studies; on responses to our online teacher evaluation form; and on the extensive evaluation of our program conducted by the USF Office of Assessment.
