Sense of Community

Public Writing Online Project

This was a highly successful project my students collaborated on to educate the public on online public writing uses, benefits, and dangers. They really went the extra mile with it, and I was very pleased. I have used this project two semesters in a row, and each successive class tries to improve and expand the website. I will use this project in the future, also. We are giving this website for the Advocacy Program's use.

Grading Projects Through Journalling

To grade this project, each student keeps a wikijournal of their personal and group work, so that I can keep track (by the honor system) of each student's contributions.

Visible Student Papers and Work

This student did a travel writing piece online. We are currently working to edit it to give to the Florida Aquarium for publicity use.

Other Projects

Public Writing Annotated Bibliographies

Other Teacher Use of Wikis

Quentin Vierrege

He posts his blog topics on the wiki, then students use WritingBlogs.org to post. Quentin also has his students do a wiki novel in groups to take place of one of the blogs each week, and has seen much success with this project

Wiki Novel

His students also create personal wiki pages.

Janzen/McAllister

These two instructors had their students collaborate on a lexical dictionary last semester.

David Moody

Other instructors use the wikis as home pages for their courses, and post things such as assignments, schedules, and syllabus.
